The Gambsodule puzzle

With a simple paper sheet, two cardboard pieces and a string we can make an original topological puzzle: the Gambsodule. This puzzle is composed of 3 paper loops held together by their edges.

Let's Start

 To construct the puzzle take a A4 format sheet and fold it into 3 parts, then cut out the third part along the fold line as per diagram (fig. 2a). Once the paper strip is cut out, make two lengthwise incisions in it (fig. 2b & c). At the same time, with the remainder of the paper sheet make a paper ring of approx. 2 cm in diameter and join two 3x3 cm cardboard squares at the ends of a string 30 cm long (fig. 1). Then, twist the paper strip (fig. 2d) in order to obtain the shape illustrated in fig. 2e. Stick now the ends of the paper strip together with Scotchtape (fig. 3a) and cut off from this part a small piece (fig. 3b). Slip the loop of the Gambsodule through this small "button-hole" (fig. 3c), slip the paper ring on the reversed loop (fig. 3d)...

 ...and place across the loop the string with the cardboard pieces (fig. 4a). Finally, take out the loop from the small hole (fig. 4b) and pull back the string between the loops of the puzzle (fig. 5a). The diagram in fig. 5b shows how the puzzle should look. © Gianni A. AIM OF THE PUZZLE
Give the puzzle to a friend and tell him to remove the paper ring from the string. Once he gets the ring off, he should put it on again!
